Best Buddies creates opportunities for one-to-one friendship, integrated employment and leadership development for people with and without disabilities. Best Buddies’ middle school, high school and college chapters are structured around an academic school year in which students with disabilities and students without disabilities in 35 area schools are paired with an individual in their class without a disability. Through the course of the year, they work on service projects together, eat lunch together, host all school assemblies with the message of inclusion, and generally just have fun being students. Although there is a significant impact on each student involved, the larger goals revolve around preparing students with disabilities for success in the workplace, and creating an environment of acceptance for those with disabilities.

The Best Buddies Friendship Walk is sponsored by FM 102/1, Manpower Group, Associated Bank, BMO Harris and Veolia Environmental Services.
