Since its legalization in 2018, cannabidiol or CBD, is becoming more common in the greater Milwaukee area. Under the Farm Bill, farmers can grow and sell hemp products with the proper permits. There are two kinds of CBD oil – cannabis and hemp (“CBD in Wisconsin”). In Wisconsin, CBD cannabis oil is only legal for those who are diagnosed with epilepsy, and this is strictly enforced. CBD hemp oil is legal to everyone for personal use if they are 18 years old or older.

Understandably, many people confuse the oil with marijuana and its psychoactive effects. Both are derived from the cannabis plant, although CBD hemp oil does not contain (THC) tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is the active chemical that gets a person high. CBD hemp oil is legal because it contains only .3% or less THC. It has also been proven in multiple studies that CBD hemp oil does not have the potential for drug abuse. Nature News conducted a study with mice to test this theory. The results explain that different doses of CBD did not induce Conditioned Place Preference, ending CBD administration did not cause withdrawal, and CBD did not cause the mice to self-induce by using a lever press (Viudez-Martinez, 2018). The article also stated that it helps lessen reward-facilitating effects and withdrawals from hard drug use – which could be useful to those struggling with addiction.

Many people experience pain relief or relaxation after taking CBD. People of all ages who suffer from chronic pain disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraines, . . . PTSD, insomnia, depression, anxiety, nausea, epilepsy, seizures, etc. may feel relieved from their pain or symptoms (“The Real Milwaukee CBD”). Having CBD as a natural way to ease those issues is an alternative to pills and other medicines. In addition to pain relieving, people look to it as part of their health and wellness routine. CBD interacts with the body’s natural endocannabinoid system (ECS) to help regulate functions like sleep, appetite, and immune response to maintain homeostasis or a state of balance despite outside fluctuations and influences (“Why Should I Use CBD Oil?”). People use it as a daily supplement since it is filled with omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants to help their bodies flourish.

There are many different ways people take CBD aside from dripping the oil including: sprays, edibles, body care products, and capsules. There are no proven side effects of usage. Many different stores across the Milwaukee area sell CBD hemp oil in all of these forms. You may have seen one, or maybe one’s being built in your area. And whether or not this is something you’d like to incorporate into your routine, it seems like it’s going to be around for a while.
